But what I really meant was its been a long day and now that I’m home I just want to tinker. So I’m going to pull the oil tank to get at the air box so I can derustify it. And eat a cannoli. That is not a euphemism.

Does this mean you got it unstuck?
Still working on it is a good sign.

Sadly, no. I suspect it was what I’ve found on the forums named a “hot seize” and no amount of applied chemistry has worked. So I’m going to start taking care of other issues on the bike, which is in pretty decent shape aside from the engine, and try to figure out how to fix the cylinder issue. I’ve read that the cylinder can be machined and/or resleeved and a new piston and rings fitted, but I’m not sure I want to throw that sort of good money after bad if there are other fatal mechanical gremlins lurking. As you’re probably aware, I’m a complete and utter noob at wrenching so if nothing else, this is good experience following a clymber manual and not over torquing things.
